British Playwright wins Nobel Prize
13-Oct-2005
Written by: Alicyn Hanford

Harold Pinter was awarded with the Nobel Prize for Literature.

British playwright, Harold Pinter, was awarded with the Nobel Prize for literature today.

During his long career, the 75-year old writer has not only penned plays such as “The Birthday Party,” and “The Homecoming,” but acted, directed, written poetry and written for film. He also wrote frequently for British newspapers about his opposition to the United States-led invasion of Iraq.

Influenced by Samuel Beckett and James Joyce, Pinter is one of the few authors to have inspired an adjective, “Pinteresque.”

Pinter took home the $1.3 million prize, after retiring from writing, in order to focus on peace.
