Johnny Depp to Produce and Star in Upcoming Film

Depp Plays a Jack of All Trades
Academy Award winning screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) has signed on to adapt Gregory David Roberts' novel, Shantaram. Warner Brothers acquired the book, loosely based on the author's life, for $2 million in 2004. The film will be produced by Initial Entertainment, Brad Pitt (Plan B), and Johnny Depp, who will also star in the movie.
Shantaram is the story of an Australian heroin addict who escapes prison and winds up in India adopting various roles including doctor, counterfeiter, smuggler, and gunrunner.
You can catch Depp even sooner, this December, in "The Libertine" co-starring John Malkovich.
