Koppel Says Goodbye

Ted Koppel will anchor his last Nightline tonight.

Tonight marks the last day that anchor Ted Koppel will take the chair on Nightline. Koppel has hosted the late night show for 25 years and has been a member of the ABC news team for 42. This last show will feature one of his favorite news segments, 1995's three part series about Morrie Schwartz.

Schwartz was a retired sociology professor from Brandeis University who was suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease. After watching the series, Mitch Albom, a former student of Schwartz, visited his former professor every week. The story of Schwartz and Albom was turned into a best-selling book, "Tuesdays With Morrie." Koppel said that this was one of his favorite segments of the show because it dealt with people that no one had really heard about.
