Us Weekly reports that just three years after saying "I Do," Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson have officially announced their separation. In a joint statement from their publicists, the couple told the magazine, "After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Us Weekly reported the Newlyweds couple's split over a month ago, but both Jessica's father, Joe Simpson, and Lachey's publicist had denied the break up. Soon after the report, the couple jetted off to Europe on a trip which was rumored to be either a way to try and convince the public that they were really still together, or to try and work out how they were going to handle the situation.

Speculation of the breakup began with rumors of infidelity on both sides. Simpson admitted to Teen People magazine that the breakup rumors put a strain on her marriage and that she sought therapy.
