Springsteen's "Born to Run" the Amazon.com Top 100 List
Christmas albums and soundtracks had an impact on Amazon.com's Top 100 selling CDs last week.
Bruce Springsteen was "The Boss" of last week's CD sales. Born to Run: The 30th Anniversary 3-Disc Set was the most popular album sold on the amazon.com website. Madonna danced her way to the number two spot with her latest, Confessions of a Dance Floor. Amarantine by Irish folk singer Enya came in at number three. The spirit of Christmas has even hit amazon.com. Jazz singer Diana Krall's Christmas Songs was the fourth most popular album of the week. The Simon Cowell created opera singing group, Il Divo, made it to number five with The Christmas Collection. Another artist whose career was influenced by American Idol's Simon Cowell, American Idol 4 winner Carrie Underwood's debut country album, Some Hearts, came in at number six. The seventh most popular album belonged to rock singer and new father Rod Stewart with Thanks for the Memory: The Great American Songbook IV. Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall was number eight. Rounding out the week's top ten were Neil Diamond's 12 Songs and Kate Bush's Aerial.
Some artists claim more than one spot on Amazon's Top 100 list. Rod Stewart, Michael Buble, Il Divo, Johnny Cash, Madonna, Green Day and Neil Diamond all have multiple albums or singles on the chart.
Soundtracks were abundant on last week's list as well. Wicked and Monty Python's Spamalot were the Broadway shows that made an appearance as well as the soundtracks to the television shows Smallville, Firefly and Grey's Anatomy. Rent, Good Night and Good Luck, Walk the Line, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire were the movie soundtracks that landed on the chart. Not only did Christmas music take up two spots in the top ten, but it also found its way throughout the list with Sinatra's Christmas with the Rat Pack, Brian Setzer Orchestra's Dig that Christmas, Regis Philbin's The Regis Philbin Christmas Album, and The Trans-Siberian Orchestra's The Lost Christmas Eve.
