The Kennedy Center Honored
The 28th Annual Kennedy Center Honors took place on Sunday night in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center's Opera House. Singers Tony Bennett and Tina Tuner, dancer/teacher Suzanne Farrell, actress Julie Harris and actor/director Robert Redford were honored last night at the ceremony. Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman said of the honorees, "We honor five extraordinary American artists whose unique and abundant contributions to our culture have transformed our lives."
Tony Bennett was recognized by trumpet player Wynton Marsalis performing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." R&B singer John Legend sang "For Once in My Life" and Diana Krall covered Bennett's hit "Fly Me to The Moon." As a tribute to Tina Turner, Queen Latifah sang "What's Love Got to Do With It," Melissa Etheridge covered "River Deep, Mountain High," and Beyonce Knowles of Destiny's Child sang "Proud Mary." Paul Newman, Glenn Close, and Tom Brokaw gave tribute to Robert Redford while Kevin Spacey sang the praises of Julie Harris for her work in theater and film. Suzanne Farrell was honored by Jacques d'Amboise, her former colleague at the New York City Ballet.
The 28th Annual Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS on December 27th.
