Time Magazine Names "Persons of the Year"
The husband and wife team of Bill and Melinda Gates joined U2's Bono as Time Magazine's "Persons of the Year" for 2005. The magazine chose them because of their work to try and eliminate disease and hunger around the world. The three have worked in helping those in Africa with malaria, HIV, AIDS and poverty.
Also in the issue, former presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton were named "Partners of the Year" for their joint effort in aiding those affected by the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.
Last year, President George W. Bush graced the cover of the magazine as "Person of the Year." The magazine chooses who gets the distinction by whoever had the biggest impact, whether good or bad, in the news and on the lives of people in that year.
Time Magazine's 2005 "Persons of the Year" issue hits newsstands on Monday.
