Charity Causes Tension in U2
Bono told the BBC on Saturday that his support for charities is causing a rift in the band.
U2 lead singer Bono says that his focus on charity work is causing problems for the band. He told BBC radio on Saturday, "They [the band members] are hugely supportive spiritually and financially of the work I do, but they are in a rock 'n roll band, and the first job of a rock 'n roll band is to be not dull. So we have to be very careful about letting me go too far."
Bono, along with Bob Geldof, spearheaded the summer's Live 8 concert that had musicians performing around the world in support of stopping poverty in Africa. He has also been known to take part in other charities, including Greenpeace and AIDS benefits.
