An investigative Web site has leveled charges at James Frey’s 1.77-million-copy bestseller “A Million Little Pieces” that the book is complete fabrication, based on exaggerated criminal offenses.

An investigative Web site has leveled charges at James Frey’s 1.77-million-copy bestseller “A Million Little Pieces” that the book is complete fabrication, based on exaggerated criminal offenses. The Smoking Gun, in an article called “The Man Who Conned Oprah,” claimed that Frey did not serve a prison sentence or was investigated by the FBI or declared an outlaw “wanted in three states,” as his book, which Frey describes as “a true story,” maintains. Frey’s response on his personal website, bijimindustries.com, was terse and full of pique: “Let the haters hate, let the doubters doubt, I stand by my book, and my life, and I won't dignify this bullshit with any sort of further response.”
