CBS Gunning For Katie Couric

CBS seems to be confident enough in its plans to sign up "Today" star Katie Couric as anchor of the "Evening News." Although not mentioning Couric by name, CBS news president Sean McManus said his plan was to get a lone anchor with a high profile and "a wealth of experience" reporting for one of the other major news stations. Couric, 49, who fits this criteria, also has a contract that expires in May. Despite rumors of attempting to hire two anchors, McManus replied: "It's less cumbersome, more efficient, and I think, more comfortable for the American public to get their news from a single anchor than from two... I'm not sure what two anchors can do that one anchor can't do." McManus also plans to increase the visibility of correspondents Lara Logan, Russ Mitchell, and Mika Brzezinski.
