The witty adolescent tale “Criss Cross” won the Newbury Award on Monday. "I just threw clothes in the washer at the Laundromat because I don't have anything to wear," said author Lynne Rae Perkins. The book is about the life and thoughts of a 14-year-old, and incorporates poems, haikus, and question-and-answer sections. "She and her publisher created a book that was like nothing we have ever seen," said Barbara Barstow, the head of the Newbury Committee. "It's beautiful."
