The witty adolescent tale “Criss Cross” won the Newbury Award on Monday.

The witty adolescent tale “Criss Cross” won the Newbury Award on Monday. "I just threw clothes in the washer at the Laundromat because I don't have anything to wear," said author Lynne Rae Perkins. The book is about the life and thoughts of a 14-year-old, and incorporates poems, haikus, and question-and-answer sections. "She and her publisher created a book that was like nothing we have ever seen," said Barbara Barstow, the head of the Newbury Committee. "It's beautiful."
