Brokeback Mountain: Broke at SAG Awards
Critic favorite "Brokeback Mountain" was shut out at the 12th Annual Screen Actor's Guild Awards on Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The "gay cowboy movie" lost the Ensemble cast award to the film about race relations, "Crash." The best actor awards went to Philip Seymour Hoffman for "Capote" and Reese Witherspoon for her role as June Carter in "Walk the Line." In the supporting roles, Paul Giamatti of "Cinderella Man" and "The Constant Gardener's" Rachel Weisz both took home a statue. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Shirley Temple Black.
In the television categories, "Desperate Housewives" was the big winner taking home two awards, Comedy ensemble and Actress in a Comedy Series for Felicity Huffman. "24's" Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Oh of "Grey's Anatomy" won for actor in a Drama Series. Sean Hayes took home the award for Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Jack McFarland on "Will & Grace." Paul Newman of "Empire Falls" and S. Epatha Merkerson of "Lackawanna Blues" won Actor awards for Television Movie or Miniseries. The cast of "Lost" was given the award for Drama ensemble.
