R. Kelly Takes the “Soul Train“
2-Feb-2006
Written by: Ellen Wernecke
The RandB arist was the leading nominee in the 20th annual awards.
It wouldn't be so bad to be "Trapped in the Closet" as long as it has a trophy case.
R. Kelly picked up three nominations at this year's Soul Train Awards, leading the pack ahead of the March 4 ceremony. Kelly is up for best male R&B-soul album for "TP.3 Reloaded" and best male R&B-soul single and video for "Trapped in the Closet" (chapter 1 of 5)
But even if Kelly doesn't pick up any awards on the big night, he'll take home the first annual Stevie Wonder Award in exemplary songwriting. Jamie Foxx and Destiny's Child will also receive career achievements at the ceremony from song legend himself, Quincy Jones.
Other artists up for multiple "Soul Train" statuettes include the Black Eyed Peas, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani, Bobby Valentino and John Legend.
The awards will air March 4 live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
