Step aside Carbon sacks--the Annies are here.
British claymation “Wallace and Gromet: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” cleaned up at the 33rd annual Annie Awards in Glendale, Calif. Already having earned an Oscar nomination for best animated film, “Were-Rabbit” scooped up eight Annies including best animated picture, best animated effects and best character animation.
Other contenders were Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch,” which picked up the Annie for best home entertainment production, and 'The Fan and the Flower,' which got best animated short subject. Best animated TV commercial went to United Airlines for “Mr. Pants.”
Best TV production went to Cartoon Network’s “Star Wars: Clone Wars II.” Nickelodeon’s “The Fairly Odd Parents” took the Annie for character design, while Fox’s “Family Guy” scored twice, once for director Peter Shin and another for Seth MacFarland’s, whose role as the maniacal Stewie Griffin earned him the award for best voice acting. “SpongeBob SquarePants’s” writing crew received also took honors for the episode ‘Fear of a Krabby Patty.” Best animated video game went to Activision/Treyarch`s 'Ultimate Spider-Man.'
There you have it, the best the animation world has to offer. So when you’re done watching “Brokeback Mountain,” give “Wallace and Gromit” a whirl.
