Wyclef Jean votes in Haiti's election

Wyclef Jean retraced his roots to his Homeland of Haiti, to vote alongside millions of fellow Haitians in an effort to save their struggling nation.

The founding member of the Grammy winning group, The Fugees, arrived in Haiti by helicopter because commercial flights had been suspended in Port-au-Prince on Election Day. Jean complained that the electoral commission didn't provide better conditions for voters, since many Haitians waited in mile-long lines.

"What was sad was just the condition the people were put into vote." he said. "Where I was sent to vote... I mean, I'm walking and there's piss on the floor. I was, like, how is all these people going to get into this little corridor, It was the most insane thing."

Jean was born in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti, when he was 10, his family moved to a housing project in Brooklyn. Since then, Jean has been a huge success as a member of The Fugees and worked with singers and musicians that include, Mary J. Blige and Tom Jones.

But that success hasn't erased his love for Haiti, which is why he founded Yele Haiti, a charity that distributed some $1 million in grants and aid and provides scholarships to children. Last month, Jean invited actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to Haiti to support the charity.

Now that Haitians have peacefully voted in hope of electing a government to replace that of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was ousted in a bloody rebellion, the world should take notice, Jean said.

"People showed incredible patience, and that should send out a signal internally that the Haitian people are not violent people," Jean said. "I think in the situation that we're in, the international community must not let us down."
