U2, West, Carey Come Home on Top during Awkward Grammys
9-Feb-2006
Written by: David Pepose

Kanye West finally earned his television appearance privileges back, after hitting the Grammys without saying anything even remotely resembling his almost mythic “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Earning three Grammys for his album “Late Registration,” West proved that his bravado, given during an interview with Rolling Stone, was more than just for show.

U2 also cleaned up big at the Grammys, picking up five awards, and Mariah Carey, who came back strong with “The Emancipation of Mimi,” scooped up three awards.

The actual awards, however, proved to be awkward, with Paul McCarthy ruining his best-known song “Yesterday” with rapper Jay-Z and alternative emo rockers Linkin Park, and Madonna proving her strangeness yet again by performing “Feel Good, Inc.” with Damon Albarn’s digitally animated Gorillaz.
