Holy Forced Propaganda, Batman!
15-Feb-2006
Written by: David Pepose
Forget the Joker: in Frank Miller’s next Batman epic, the Dark Knight has bigger fish to fry—Al-Qaeda, for example.
Miller, who wrote the seminal Batman stories “Batman: Year One” and “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns,” as well as its sequel, the ill-begotten “Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again,” told an audience at the 2006 WonderCon in San Francisco that his latest work, “Holy Terror, Batman!” will have Batman hunting down Osama bin Laden in response to terrorist attacks on Gotham City.
“Imagine the powerful rage when someone crosses the passion between a man and a woman or a man and his city,” said Miller, who cites his rage at the perpetrators of the September 11th attacks for his newest creation.
Miller, who also created the ultra-violent Sin City, recalled the previous uses of propaganda in comic book history, such as Captain America and Superman each punching Adolf Hitler in their respective comic book adventures. "That's one of the things they're there for. … these are our folk heroes,” Miller said. “It just seems silly to chase around the Riddler when you've got al Qaeda out there.”
