Michelle Williams' Mom: I'm Proud Of My Daughter
Michelle Williams' role as a forsaken wife in "Brokeback Mountain" may have ruffled some feathers.
But as her former school distances itself from the Best Supporting Actress nominee, mom Carla Williams says her daughter, 25, has nothing to be ashamed of.
At Santa Fe Christian, where Williams got her start acting in school plays before being cast in 1994's "Lassie," the "Dawson's Creek" beauty starred in G-rated productions of "The Sound of Music" and "Tom Sawyer."
But the school's principal says he doesn't support the turn her career has taken and says he and the school don't want anything to do with her.
"Michelle doesn't represent the values of this institution," said principal Jim Hopson. "I hope we offered her something in life. But she made the kinds of choices of which we wouldn't approve. 'Brokeback Mountain' basically promotes a lifestyle we don't promote. It's not the word of God."
That doesn't bother mom Williams, who drove her daughter to LA every weekend when she was younger to score her film and television roles like her long run on "Dawson's Creek."
"She's sweet, she has a heart, I'm so proud of her," Williams said. "Nothing she's done as an actress has bothered me."
"Brokeback Mountain" has been nominated for eight Oscars and, according to industry insiders, is expected to execute a near sweep come Sunday.
Williams met her finance Heath Ledger (nominated himself for Best Actor) while working on the film. The two live in Brooklyn with their daughter Matilda, who was born last fall.
