New Bond Film Set to Reimagine Franchise

No gadgets, no 00--what's this film coming to?

Following in hot pursuit of last summer's breakaway origin pic, "Batman Begins," the new Daniel Craig Bond film, "Casino Royale," promises to show the super-spy at his very beginnings. The film begins with Bond striving to get his 00 status and his license to kill by committing three assassinations: "He's an assassin," Craig said to MTV. "He has to prove that he can do it, so if he doesn't manage it or do it properly, then he doesn't get his 00 credits and he'd have to go back to being a commander in the navy." The first action sequence in the film has Bond chasing relentlessly after Mollaka, the third of his assignments, and a gravity-defying "free-runner," to boot-the chase will involve the not-quite 007 hijacking cars and cranes as he hunts down his acrobatic quarry. However, don't look to hard for any of the extravagant gadgets the Bond films are famous for: "There aren't many gadgets," Craig told MTV. "It's because we're starting in the beginning. There aren't there yet." The film opens November 17, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, Eva Green as prodigal Bond girl Vesper Lynd, and Mads Mikkelsen as villain Le Chiffre.
