National Magazine Awards Getting “Oscars“-style Makeover
23-Mar-2006

It isn’t televised, but the magazine industry’s annual fete is about to get a lot more swanky.
How to make a party more fancy? Invite celebrities.
Compared to the organizations behind the Grammys and the Oscars, the American Society of Magazine Editors is pretty low-profile.
But that's about to change this May when stars like Anderson Cooper and Wynton Marsalis make appearances at the "Ellies," as they're called. Instead of a Waldorf Astoria luncheon, this year's ceremony will be held at night on May 9 at Jazz at Lincoln Center near the new Time Warner complex.
As in the Oscars, a number of celebrity presenters will dole out the magazine industry's biggest awards. ASME is reportedly even courting supermodel Heidi Klum to present its annual Style category award, the New York Post reported.
