Suge Knight Blows Off Court Hearing
In the mid 90's Death Row Records, home of rap icons Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, and Dr. Dre, was a major force in the music industry. The California based label was also deeply entrenched in the east coast-west coast rivalry. Constant court battles combined with the departure of many of its top artists has caused Death Row to vanish from the national scene. In March of 2005, Lydia Harris won a court battle with the label allocating her $107 million dollars for her help in founding the label. Her husband and notorious drug dealer, Michael Harris, later claims he put up $1.5 million to help start the label as well. As the battle to clarify legal ownership drags on, Knight is filing a suit of his own against Michael Harris for his allegations that Death Row was started with funds from his drug enterprise. "Suge" faces jail time unless he discloses his assets, which have been frozen for nearly a year, to court officials. If the threatened receivership does occur, Knight would lose control of all assets of Death Row Records including an extensive music library.
