When Are We Too Young for TV?
At a very young age, many children set in front of television and begin to adore the characters on Sesame Street. While considering the fact that these characters we begin to love are licensed to promote numerous other products, the question arises when is too soon? Sesame Beginnings, a new video aimed at children as young as six months old, was developed in conjunction with numerous child development experts. However, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that children under the age of 2 watch no TV. Not even the stuff that has been developed specifically for them. Rosemarie Truglio, Sesame Workshop's vice president of education and research, disputes this pointing out the lack of scientific research to justify keeping the youngest children away from TV. The group intends to release the videos as scheduled.
