Shakira and Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova receive humanitarian awards.
Shakira, the pop sensation with the hips that don’t lie, was honored for her humanitarian efforts at a fashion show hosted by the nonprofit group Women Together. With around 400 guests, fashionistas, and VIP’s, the show also hosted a panel on Poverty, Women and Human Rights. Shakira was selected for the prestigious award for the charity she started, Barefoot. Her charity aims to help children in her native Colombia escape violence.
After accepting the award the 29 year old singer spoke to the guests, saying, “Let's not forget at the end of this day when we all go home, 960 children will have died in Latin America.”
