Spielberg Does Reality

Steven Spielberg will take part in a new FOX reality series to find the next great filmmaker.

Steven Spielberg is creating his own version of "Project Greenlight." The Academy Award-winning director signed a deal with FOX to create a new reality show called "On the Lot." Filmmakers will face off against each other for the chance to receive a development deal with DreamWorks, the company Spielberg co-founded. Each week a group of contestants will create a film with one person on each team being named the director. Viewers will then vote on which film they think is the best. The losing director will be the one kicked off of the show. "On the Lot" will air twice during the week, with the first episode being the "film premiere" and the second episode each week being the "box office" results from the viewers' votes. Spielberg will appear on the show, but it's uncertain how often. Like "American Idol," there will be a panel of three judges commenting on the films. The panel will include a film executive, a critic, and a guest judge. The new reality competition will air in the 2006-2007 season and is going to be produced by Mark Burnett, the man who brought us hit reality shows "Survivor" and "The Apprentice."
