David Blaine To Take To The Sea
They say all life comes from the water. Now David Blaine is going back.
The magician, who in 2003 spent 44 days in a plastic box over the Thames River in London, will live in a heated "human aquarium" in front of Lincoln Center beginning May 1st, culminating in a televised attempt to break the world record for breath-holding (8 minutes, 58 seconds according to the Associated Press) on the last day.
The 8-ft. tall tank has clear sides so passersby can interact with Blaine as he swims, although he may not be able to hear them through the walls. Blaine will receive liquid nutrition as he swims through a feeding tube instead of eating (yikes!) plankton.
Obviously Blaine doesn't have gills, but he's been training his breath for the big dive. The culminating breath stunt, which will be shown May 8 on ABC, will feature Blaine training with Navy SEALS in preparation for his watery home.
Let's hope the special's title -- "David Blaine: Drowned Alive" -- is just a morbid joke.
