Kaavya Viswanathan’s book was pulled after she admitted she unintentionally imitated passeges from author.
The debut book of 19-year old Harvard student Kaavya Viswanathan was pulled off the shelves after she admitted she unintentionally imitated passages from another book. Little, Brown & Co., the publishers of “How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life” decided to withdraw all editions of the book from stores Thursday and notified retail outlets to stop selling the novel. The company reportedly had signed Viswanathan to a six-figure deal. The student said she unintentionally mimicked Megan McCafferty’s “Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings” in several passages in her book. In a statement McCafferty said she would not seek any restitution. Viswanathan’s book had reached No. 32 on the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list.
