33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards
The 33rd Daytime Emmy Awards took place Friday night in Hollywood. This is the first year in the history of the Daytime Emmy Awards that the ceremony took place outside of New York. This year's show was extended to three hours to include more interviews and clips. The night also confirmed the rumors of who was going to replace Meredith Vieira on "The View." Rosie O'Donnell joined Barbara Walters on stage, announcing that she will be the newest face of the show. Caroll Spinney, the voice behind Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The ceremony honored the best in daytime television, which included morning talk shows, game shows, and soap operas. "General Hospital" took home its 9th Daytime Emmy Award, winning for best Drama Series. Ellen DeGeneres won for the third straight time for Outstanding Talk Show. She also won Outstanding Talk Show Host for the second time. "Guiding Light" nabbed four awards for the performances of actors Kim Zimmer, Jordan Clarke, Gina Tognoni, Tom Pelphrey. "General Hospital" won an award for best drama series and directing team. The show's Anthony Geary was named best lead actor in a drama series.
"As the World Turns'" Jennifer Landon took home the award for Younger Actress in a Drama Series. "The Young and the Restless" won for drama series writing team. Alex Trebek and "Jeopardy" won two awards. For the twelfth time, "Sesame Street" won for Outstanding Pre-School Children's Series. The voice of Elmo, Kevin Clash took the award for children's performer. Other winners of the night include "Suze Orman, Suze Orman: For the Young, Fabulous & Broke," "30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray," "Zoom," James McDaniel of "Edge of America" and AOL, Live 8 on AOL.
