Tiger's Dad Loses Battle To Cancer

Earl Woods trained his champion son and went to all of his matches.

You could say he was the world's best 'Tiger' tamer.

Earl Woods, PGA champion Tiger Woods ' father and long-time coach, died today after a long battle with cancer. He was 74.

Woods, a former college baseball star and Green Beret, taught his son nearly from birth to share his love for the game -- but also for excellence in the rest of his life, as he outlined in his bestselling book "Training a Tiger: A Father's Guide to Raising a Winner in Both Golf and Life."

"My dad was my best friend and greatest role model, and I will miss him deeply," Tiger Woods said on his Web site, the Associated Press reported. "I wouldn't be where I am today without him."
