Where are our Wonder Years?

A classic show is still MIA on DVD

With all of the television shows that are now on DVD fans are demanding to know, where are The Wonder Years?

The Wonder Years came onto the scene in 1988 and ran until 1993. The show provided an in depth look at a significant time told from the point-of-view of adult Kevin Arnold (narration of Daniel Stern), and recalls Kevin's adolescence during the turbulent times of the late 1960's and 1970's.

This television show was one of those shows that you watched and you related to. Anybody could view it and find something in common with Kevin Arnold and his family. The theme song to the show "With a little help from my friends", a cover by Joe Cocker, put you in the mood to enjoy the show and remember the times.

With all of these DVD's out of shows that only lasted perhaps six months or barely had a pilot, why isn't a show that changed a generation on the top of the production list?

Copyright laws, that's why.

There is speculation as to who owns the rights to the television show. The main players are Anchor Bay Entertainment and FOX, both rumored to be owners. Regardless of who plays boss, due to alleged licensing rights of all the owners, The Wonder Years will never be distributed on DVD.

Yes, I believe we are all bitter about it.

There are, however, rumors swirling around that the show will be released on DVD later this year. These are of course only rumors and most people will tell you it's not going to happen.

Have no fear Wonder Years fanatics! There is a petition being circulated on petitionspot.com that has over 500 signatures urging the release of this DVD set. Comments made by petitioners are all very similar.

One lady commented "I support this petition because I love the Wonder Years. I grew up watching it and I want to watch it now to be taken back to those 'Years of Wonder'". Another gentlemen said "This company is sitting on a potential gold mine,".

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree.
