Cannibal in Germany gets life in prison.
9-May-2006

A previous conviction from 2004 was overturned.
If your stomach doesn’t like hearing things that make it queasy, skip this story.
A man in Germany who stunned the nation and the world was sentenced to life in prison after eating a man he had met online.
You read that right.
Armin Meiwes, 44, said he had acted on his victim’s request, a man named Bernd-Juergen Brandes, to end his life and systematically dine on his remains. That is, at least, the story he told the court.
Meiwes said in court he had spoke with over 400 hopefuls over the internet in the hopes of finding a willing victim for his twisted fantasy.
This was the second time Meiwes was in court for the crime he had committed. The first sentence he received for manslaughter, an eight-year jail sentence, was said to be too lenient for the man and overturned by the courts.
In a story that is sure to terrify anyone and that inspired a motion picture, Meiwes said he traveled to meet Brandes and then proceeded to videotape himself mutilating and eventually killing his victim.
Obviously there’s no need to go into details unless you’re planning on seeing your breakfast again.
This man-eater (no pun intended) stored almost 66 pounds of flesh in his freezer and later ate it with, allegedly, red cabbage and potatoes.
Hearty.
Whether or not Brandes’ wanted to die at the hands of a cannibal it will never be known. It can be said however that a lesson is to be learned of all this.
Do your research before meeting people online.
