Limbaugh's Viagra incident not illegal - just embarrasing
Rush Limbaugh's recent attempt to avoid embarrassment ended up backfiring and causing him more - but at least this time he wasn't breaking the law.
The radio talk show host, known for his recent debacle with "doctor shopping" for illegal painkillers, was caught by Florida customs security June 26 with a bottle of Viagra that was prescribed to someone else. Limbaugh, 55, said the medication was prescribed to his doctor to avoid potential embarrassment - but after spending three hours in Palm Beach International Airport and re living the incident on his talk show, quite the opposite took place.
Dr. Steve Strumwasser, whose name was on the Viagra bottle and is Limbaugh's psychiatrist, said he "agreed to have his name on the label in an effort to avoid potentially embarrassing publicity for the suspect," according to the prosecutor's office.
Under Florida law, it isn't illegal for a physician to prescribe medication in a third party's name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County.
