J.K. Rowling receives honorary degree from university.
When author J.K. Rowling is not writing about Harry Potter and his friends, she’s contributing to the fight against multiple sclerosis.
Rowling is president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Scotland and has donated a substantial sum of money to the Aberdeen University’s Institute of Medical Sciences for its research about multiple sclerosis.
On Thursday, Rowling was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University, the Associated Press reports.
"She is an example of a Scottish leader who has used her reputation and wealth to support the battle for improving human health and for fighting human disease," said Neva Haites, head of the university’s College of Life Sciences and Medicine, at the award ceremony.
Rowling’s family has been struck with this disease. Her mother died from the disease in 1990 at 45 years old.
This is not the first honorary degree Rowling has been given. She also has honorary degrees from the universities of St. Andrews, Edinburgh and Napier in Scotland.
