Elton John joins others for Fashion Rocks concert
Legendary performer Elton John will perform at the Fashion Rocks concert Sept. 7, joining other superstar acts including Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera and Kanye West.
Now in its third year, proceeds from the concert will go to John's AIDS foundation. Fashion segments will be featured throughout the show.
"Fashion and music have always been inextricably linked," executive producer Richard D. Beckman said Thursday. "People will never forget the day the Beatles walked off the plane; David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, John Travolta strutting in 'Saturday Night Fever,' or Madonna as the 'Material Girl.'
"Today, the worlds of fashion and music are merging faster than ever, with multiple artists including Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z capitalizing on this synergy by launching fashion lines of their own."
Also appearing on the show are Beyonce, Bon Jovi, the Black Eyed Peas, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Daddy Yankee, the Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna and Scissor Sisters.
Fashion Rocks will be broadcast in a two-hour CBS special Sept. 8.
