Pearl Jam vows to donate $100,000 for environment

The band promises to donate $100,000 to nine environmental groups

Pearl Jam has pledged to donate $100,000 to several environmental groups that concentrate on climate change, renewable energy and other environmental causes, according to the Associated Press. It is part of an attempt to counteract the carbon emissions the band churns out while they are on tour.

"Our Carbon Portfolio Strategy is the newest component of our ongoing efforts to advance clean renewable energy and carbon mitigation," Pearl Jam said on their Web site earlier this week.

Pearl Jam has picked nine organizations to receive these donations, including Cascade Land Conservancy and EarthCorps, which both work to protest and replenish Puget Sound-area forests.

In the past, the band has also donated to other green causes, including donating money to preserve a Madagascar rain forest to make up for environmental damage produced by their last tour.
