Raymond star Brad Garrett returns to television
Brad Garret spent 10 years playing the despondent, scene stealing older brother, Robert, on "Everybody Loves Raymond." Robert was such a fan favorite a spin-off was planned but Garret backed out because they could not secure the key "Raymond" writers.
Since the series finale, Garrett performed in a stand-up comedy tour with his former co-star Ray Romano and will appear in the upcoming Hugh Grant movie "Music and Lyrics By."
Garrett decided to return to television with the sitcom "Til Death." Premiering September 7 on Fox, Garret will be playing Eddie Stark to Joely Fisher's Joy Stark. They are a long married couple who become aware of their lackluster marriage when newlyweds move in next door.
Garrett explains he was attracted to the script because it "reminded me of a lot of the writing on Raymond, as far as it was believable stuff, it was stuff we were all familiar with."
Garrett was also fond of the similarities his character shares with Ralph Kramden of "The Honeymooners." Garret points out his character, "Is a flawed guy who loves his wife and doesn't really know how to show it, is really a big kid who won't grow up. All the little schemes, all the little ideas, at the end of the day, are really just for her. And that will be seen down the line."
Garrett plans to have a strong creative input with "Til Death" and plans to include some biting humor. Garrett demonstrated this biting humor at the Fall 2006 lineup in May, during which, he made blunt jokes about American Idol's Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest, with whom he now shares a network.
