Ben Affleck films in the city he loves
Ben Affleck got his dream come true with his new movie, "Gone, Baby, Gone." When Affleck and Matt Damon filmed "Good Will Hunting" they wanted to shoot all the scenes in Boston. However, Miramax only took an 11-day tour through the city. "Gone, Baby, Gone" is Affleck's directorial debut and he made sure he would film the entire movie in the city he loves and grew up in.
Affleck took a break after filming the movie to thank the city for closing down some streets; he let Boston know how much he appreciates them. He made sure he had a lead actor, his younger brother Casey Affleck, who knows the city as well as he does. "Otherwise, I would have to explain it over and over again. He's wonderful in the movie and we managed to do it without killing each other," Affleck stated.
Being in the director's seat might have given Affleck a break from being in the movie, but it did not give him a break from hard work. He realized there is a big difference between the two jobs and even said, " I was 100 percent wrong" about the difficulty of the task. However, he admitted that "directing is a much more satisfying bipolar experience of sadness or euphoria. It's great or tragic, but I loved it and would like to do it again."
While in town for the two months that he filmed, Affleck, his wife Jennifer Garner and their baby daughter Violet set up camp at a residence off Harvard Square. Garner's sister lives close and she admitted to Affleck that she really liked the city. They enjoyed the comfort of being away from the paparazzi. They have said they would like to live away from the atmosphere of L.A., but have not yet bought a house anywhere, though Boston could be a great choice. Affleck believes the editing of his new movie shall be finished by next March or April.
