Pussycat Dolls concert organizers fined for sexually suggestive routines
Though it probably won't hurt their pockets much, organizers for the Pussycat Dolls concert in Malaysia last July were fined 10,000 ringget or $2,714 for their sexually suggestive performance during the show.
Absolute Entertainment was accused of ignoring decency regulations by allowing the performers to wear skimpy outfits. President Mohamad Arif Abdul Rahman said, "The Pussycat Dolls were guilty of performing sexually suggestive routines on stage...In terms of their eye-popping attire, well, there's a lot of proof of that from our sources and the media." If Absolute does not pay up, they can look forward to their day in court with the Subang Jaya Municipal Council.
President Rahman said he believed the group took of advantage of the fact that an official was not sent to monitor the concert. Council, Arts and Heritage Minister Rais Yatim released a statement saying, "I believe the way the Pussycat Dolls behaved on stage amounted to gross indecency." Comments by the officials are said to be based on what they have seen or heard in the local media.
PCD isn't the only group to be told by the Malaysian council to keep a lid on the sexuality. Grammy-winning songstress Mariah Carey was told to dress accordingly for her performance in the country and rock band Linkin Park were told not to wear shorts or to scream and exhibit any raunchy behavior so as not to offend local sensibilities.
