Halo movie gets director

Neill Blomkamp, a former "lead 3D animator" for television begins his film directing career with the adaptation with help from producer Peter Jackson.

Blomkamp has worked on television shows "Smallville," "Stargate SG-1" and received an Emmy nomination for his work on "Dark Angel." He has also won three Clio Awards for his "Citroen - Alive with technology" television commercial.

Peter Jackson of the "Lord of the Rings" films will act as mentor and producer, as well as handle the special effects with his Weta Digital company.

"Halo" follows human soldiers Master Chief and Cortana through a futuristic world they are trying to save from alien forces called the Flood. Halo is a reference to the artificial ringworld caught in the game of good versus evil due to its ability to destroy the galaxy.

The screenplay will be written by novelist D.B. Weiss based on a draft by Alex garland. The scheduled release date is mid-2008.
