Mike Wallace returns with Iranian President interview

Short retired correspondent sat down with controversial leader in Iran

It's seems like Mike Wallace has a different idea of retirement than most people.

The "60 minutes" correspondent, who retired last March, has scored an exclusive interview with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Ahmadinejad even brought up the topic during the interview saying, "I thought you had retired."

Wallace's interview will air on "CBS Evening News" on Thursday and on "60 Minutes" on Sunday.

"We waited, and they said, 'he's still busy, he doesn't know, he hasn't decided,"' Wallace told the Reporter. "We were scheduled to return. If he hadn't talked to us by late Tuesday we were going to get on the plane. All of the sudden word came through he was going to talk."

Wallace also dismissed common perceptions of the Iranian leader.

"He's actually, in a strange way, he's a rather attractive man, very smart, savvy, self-assured, good looking in a strange way," Wallace said. "He's very, very short but he's comfortable in his own skin."
