Madonna's first Moscow concert still on

Security concerns nearly canceled the tour stop but city officials have found a new venue safe enough for them and the Material Girl.

City officials were concerned with the original venue's open space and close proximity to the tower of Moscow State University, and its ability to being properly controlled by police.

After a week of negotiations, the new venue will be the much larger Luzhniki Stadium, home of the Spartak Moscow soccer team. The stadium holds 80,000 people, more than double the number of tickets sold for the concert which is part of a tour - on which Madonna prides herself - consisting of intimate venues.

As usual for any Madonna concert, the local clergy has condemnations of some sort. In Moscow's case, The Russian Orthodox Church is encouraging a boycott of the Confessions Tour due to the mock crucifixion scene at the beginning of the concert. Twelve protesters have already been fined for an unsanctioned demonstration last week. Only twelve, Madonna must be very disappointed.
