Only room for one Diddy in UK

Sean "Diddy" Combs settles out of court with musician claiming to be the original Diddy.

In yet another segment of Why Is This News, someone in the UK doesn't want Sean "Diddy" Combs going by his infamous moniker any longer.

The Bad Boy executive has settled a lawsuit with musician Richard "Diddy" Dearlove to stop using his Diddy handle when the rapper is in the UK. Combs has agreed to pay 110,000 pounds in damages and legal fees to Dearlove, who has used the name Diddy since 1992. Combs also can no longer trade under that name in the UK, under the terms of the settlement.

Dearlove is probably best known for his hit dance remix of the Blondie tune "Atomic." He also climbed up the British charts to No. 23 with "Give Me Love" in 1997. According to The Guardian, when the artist heard Combs had changed his name in 2001, he became flooded with e-mails from Puerto Rican girls asking if they could appear in his videos and people wanting him to look at their clothing lines.

Dearlove is said to be "happy and relieved" with the terms of the settlement. "It doesn't matter how big people become, he told The Guardian. "This is my name. I've been successful too. I'm not a global megastar, but what I do is valid."
