Veggie Tales Spark Problems with NBC
23-Sep-2006
Written by: Carissa Chesanek
Talking vegetables are causing major issues at its new home at NBC.
The animated "Veggie Tales" has always been known for its Christian views, and was usually only accessible on video. However, NBC has recently started showing 30-minute episodes of the talking vegtables on Saturday mornings but has been leaving their Christian views out.
The president of the Parent's Televsion Council, L. Brent Bozell, are outraged that NBC would take out such important morals and air the Christian show edited. Bozell has said that the show is known for its "biblical world view, not spite of it." How can a netowrk try and take the meaning of the show and expect it to do as well?
The creator of the animated veggies Phil Vischer, has said that he would have never signed with NBC if he knew they would take out all references to God.
Alan Wurtzel, an NBS broadcast standards executive has said that all programs that are to be aired on NBC must meet the network's standards. He said that he wanted people to be more focused on how "cool" it is that the vegtables are on tv, not to focus on it's religious values.
If NBC was so worried about religion being on a show, then why take on the highly religious cartoon show?
