Campbell misses court date
Supermodel Naomi Campbell's assault case went to court Wednesday, but the 35-year-old model did not show up for the hearing. Judge James Gibbons originally put out a warrant for her arrest, but retracted it after finding out from Campbell's lawyer that the prosecution was aware she would not be present and agreed not to issue a warrant.
Judge Gibbons then told the court, "I want to make it clear that she is absolutely obliged to appear at the next hearing. If she fails to appear on that court date, the warrant will go into effect."
The exact reason why the model couldn't make her court appearance is unknown, but according to her lawyer, David Breitbart, it is not for business reasons. He also stated Campbell is contemplating a plea bargain from Manhattan's District Attorney's office.
Campbell is charged with second-degree assault for attacking her former housekeeper, Ana Scolovino, with a cell phone. Scolovino claims she received a cut in the back of the head from the cell phone after Campbell accused her of stealing a pair of jeans. The 41-year-old housekeeper denies any thievery.
