DVD Dribble
3-Oct-2006
Written by: Michelle Vaccaro

This DVD Dribble is made up of lesser-known DVDs.

You won’t find your run of the mill DVDs in this DVD Dribble. Most of the ones you will read about, you probably never heard of.

The DVD Dribble kicks off with a DVD about 1950’s pinup Bettie Page. “Bettie Page- Dark Angel” follows her last three years as a pinup model and her turn into bondage films. The DVD features include “Behind the Scenes: Bondage, Fighting, and Nudity,” original music recordings, photo gallery, and trailers.

Masterpiece Theater is up next with “The Wilkie Collins Set.” The two-disc set includes the films “The Woman in White” and “Moonstone.” There are no special features on these DVDs.

“The Fort Fisher Hermit; The Life & Death of Robert E. Harrill” is a documentary about the life of one of North Carolina’s tourist attractions. Harrill lived off of the land and the donations of the tourists. The DVD is available in four different collectible covers.

Now we move on to another documentary. “Border War - The Battle Over Illegal Immigration” covers all perspectives on immigration. It shows different ways the issue affects people. The ninety-five minute DVD does not include any special features.

“12 and Holding” is a coming of age story of three 12-year-old children. The friends discover who they are in the wake of one child’s twin brother’s death. This DVD also does not contain any special features.

Gael Garcia Bernal and William Hurt star in “The King.” The film follows a man who searches for his father after being discharged from the Navy. The DVD includes commentaries by the producer and director, deleted scenes, actor rehearsals, the trailer, and a trailer gallery. It also has English audio tracks and Spanish subtitles.

The lives of five different people intertwine in “The Great New Wonderful.” The film, which stars famous faces like Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tony Shalhoub, and Edie Falco, takes place in New York City post 9-11. This DVD also does not include any special features.

It’s back to real life with the autobiographical comedy “I Am a Sex Addict.” It shows what it’s like to be a sex addict and how it affects other relationships. Included on this DVD is “Shooting ‘I am a Sex Addict’”: The Hotel Scene, The Ecstasy Scene, and The Mushroom Scene. The film can be viewed with both English and Spanish subtitles.

Another film that tells a couple of different stories is “Three Times.” The film’s two main characters have storylines that take place in the years 1911, 1966, and 2005. It’s a Chinese film so all of the audio is in Chinese, but don’t worry because the DVD comes with both English and Spanish subtitles.

Now we stop speaking Chinese and start French. “The Russian Dolls” is a French language film about a man who has trouble finding a girlfriend. The DVD includes “The Making of ‘Russian Dolls’” featurette. The film can be viewed with both English and Spanish subtitles.

That’s it for this edition of the DVD Dribble. If you’re feeling experimental, take a chance with something different and check out one of the above DVDs.
