Cher auction raises $3.5 million
Legendary singer Cher has auctioned off several items from her home and personal collection, with the highest bid going to a black leather-and-fishnet outfit for $60,000.
Nearly 700 other items also went on sale, including a Bentley that sold for over $200,000 and a circa 1865 brass bed for over $80,000.
Cher, who was traveling during the auction, was surprised by the high bids her items received, said Darren Julien, the president of the firm running the auction.
Julien added that Cher has also requested photos from the winners with their new items.
"She jokingly said to me, 'I want to do that to know they're appreciated and cared for, and I can call those people in case I want to buy them back.'"
Cher announced the auction in July as a way of preparing her home for redecorating. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to several charity organizations.
