Whitney Houston files divorce papers
Following their Sept. 8 separation, Whitney Houston filed for divorce from Bobby Brown this week, her publicist says.
The divorce marks the end of the off-beat couple's 14-year marriage, which produced one daughter, 13-year-old Bobby Kristina. Houston asked for custody of their daughter in the separation papers, as well as granting visitation rights for Brown. "I'm really saddened by the whole situation," Brown told People magazine last month. A relative told the magazine the couple's relationship began unraveling last fall.
"They fought like cats and dogs. They would fight about what to eat for dinner, about who wasn't cleaning out the dishwasher. Stupid things! But they were always yelling." Brown recently came through on delinquent child support payments for his two children with Kim Ward, while Houston has a new record in the works with industry giant Clive Davis.
"We're continuing to select material for her album," Davis told People. "We're all excited because, after all, everyone in our industry knows that she and Aretha are the best singers in the world today."
