Jimmy Buffett settles trademark lawsuit

Buffett gets website selling items with his likeness shutdown

Jimmy Buffet has settled a trademark lawsuit with a Galveston merchant that Buffet accused for using his trademark on his website.

Anthony Buzbee, a lawyer for Buffett said Robert Akard was selling marked-up and bootleg items with Buffett's picture or slogans associated with the singer on his website, according to the Associated Press.

Akard's lawyer, Darrell Apffel, had accused Buffett of being a financial empire and it was trying to shut down a small business.

On November 13, U.S. District Court Judge Samuel Kent issued a restraining order telling Akard to shut down the site. Akard refused and was arrested for contempt of court, according to the AP. After a few hours in jail Akard agreed to stop selling items that were against trademarks.
