High School Musical cast members bring the San Jose HP Pavilion down.
High School Musical, the Disney original movie that has captivated tweens, wowed the crowd at the HP Pavilion for one night only.
On Friday, Dec. 1, boys and girls alike cheered at the San Jose HP Pavilion at seeing their favorite High School Musical characters. According to http://www.sfgate.com, the San Francisco Chronicle website, “As Disney Channel president of entertainment, Gary Marsh, says, this tour, featuring five of the movie's six stars, is ‘a way to deepen the emotional experience the audience has connected to this property.’”
High School Musical was Disney’s first foray into movies that feature music. The http://www.sfgate.com article went on to say, “Marsh calls [High School Musical] ‘the next step: a full, break-into-song-and-dance musical.' And its appeal, he says, was simplicity: 'It's Romeo and Juliet meets Grease. But we said, let's set it in contemporary times.'” During the arena tour, five of the cast members go live onstage where they dance and belt out songs from the movie such as, “Get Your Head in the Game” and “Bop to the Top.”
The show is being directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega. It has spawned several breakout stars. Corbin Bleu will be starring in the much-anticipated movie, Jump In!, about a boxer who becomes enamored with double-dutch jump roping. Monique Coleman won the hearts of the public when she recently appeared on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Another Musical alum, Efron, is now set to star in the film version of the Broadway musical Hairspray, which is why he is absent from the arena tour.
With the movie being so successful and the arena tour set to rake in a lot of money for the franchise, all six original cast members will return for High School Musical 2. Rehearsals begin in February and shooting commences in May. According to http://www.sfgate.com, “The gang will reunite during a summer at a country club where Troy works as a lifeguard."
