The Golden Globe Nominations Are In
Jessica Biel, Rosario Dawson, and Matthew Perry were on hand this morning at the Beverly Hilton to announce the 64th Annual Golden Globe nominations.
Babel received the most recognition, earning seven nominations which included Best Motion Picture, Drama, Best Supporting Actress and Actor, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. The Departed followed closely behind with six nominations, including Best Motion Picture, Best Actor and two nods for Best Supporting Actor, one for Mark Wahlberg and the other for Jack Nicholson.
Despite causing a stir with his antics, Sacha Baron Cohen could take home two awards for his film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Cohen is up for Best Actor and the film is going against The Devil Wears Prada, Dreamgirls, Little Miss Sunshine, and Thank You for Smoking for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. In the drama category, the Hollywood Foreign Press nominated Babel, Bobby, The Departed, Little Children, and The Queen for Best Motion Picture.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood, and Helen Mirren are competing against themselves. DiCaprio is nominated in the Best Actor category for The Departed and Blood Diamond. Eastwood's World War II films, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima gave him directing nominations, while Mirren's roles in Eizabeth I and Prime Suspect: The Final Act got her nods for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV. Mirren is also nominated for Best Actress for The Queen.
In the television category, Grey's Anatomy's McDreamy has a chance at a Golden Globe statue. Patrick Dempsey, along with co-stars Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl are nominated as well as the show itself. Grey's Anatomy will battle against Big Love, Heroes, Lost, and 24 for TV Drama Series. Desperate Housewives, Entourage, The Office, Ugly Betty, and Weeds are up for TV Comedy Series. Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross are pitted up against each other for TV Comedy Series Actress.
The 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Monday, January 15 and will air live on NBC at 8pm EST.
