Female Athlete Fails Gender Test
Santhi Soudarajan, who won the silver medal in the women's 800 meter in the Asian Games, failed a gender test and is expected to be stripped of the medal.
The test reports that Soudarajan "does not possess the sexual characteristics of a woman." The test was given by a medical commission of the games. The commission is comprised of a gynecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist and an internal medicine specialist.
The games were held last month and Soudarajan took the test immediately following her win.
Her coach, P. Nagarajan, told the Indian Press that "if the reports are true, then it is very sad and extremely disappointing. Sports officials in her hometown have no information on her whereabouts.
